Haryana CM launches ‘Sanjeevani Pariyojana’ for quick medicare access at home

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on May 24, 2021 launched ‘Sanjeevani Pariyojana’, a supervised home care initiative to largely help people with mild to moderate symptoms in rural areas to access quick medical care at home.

Sanjeevani Pariyojana will provide medical care to rural areas where awareness regarding the second wave of COVID-19 and how to treat it remains low, said the official spokesperson of the state government. The state government believes that with the right procedures and care, home convalescence is possible for over 90 percent of patients in the state.

The initiative will allow people in the rural areas with mild to moderate symptoms to get access to quick medical care without having to leave their homes and travel to a hospital.

What is Sanjeevani Pariyojana?

Sanjeevani Pariyojana has been described as an important step in bringing much-needed medical care to the people “who need it most, when they need it most”.

How will this initiative boost Haryana’s fight against COVID-19?

Integrated Command and Control Centre

•Under Sanjeevani Pariyojana, an Integrated Command and Control Centre will be set up for managing critical resources such as hospital beds availability, oxygen supply, ambulance tracking and door-to-door awareness campaign.

•The initiative will enable a bird’s eye view of the entire healthcare system for the district administration.

•Setting up of a COVID hotline will help boost existing call centre capabilities to support basic triaging and guidance for suspected COVID cases or those who have been clinically diagnosed.

Mobilizing of Final Year Students

•The Sanjeevani Pariyojana will expand beyond qualified doctors and mobilize around 200 final year and pre-final year medical students and interns and connect them to consultants and experts.

•This effort will boost telemedicine/virtual health capabilities to provide treatment and monitoring for mild to moderate cases of COVID-19.

•It will help monitor cases, right from their first visit till discharge, facilitating activities including consultations, investigation reports, upshifting the patient and monitoring test results.

Distribution of home care kits

•The state will also distribute home care kits including a mask, thermometer, an oximeter and basic medicines to those in home isolation.

•The state will also provide additional ambulances and facilitate development of mobile pharmacies.

•It will also launch outreach, education and communication efforts to help citizens identify their medical options if they display symptoms.

Haryana to offer three-tier medical infrastructure

The state spokesperson said that the various interrelated activities will enable the Haryana government to offer a three-tier medical infrastructure for patients:

i) Isolation wards at the village level/ sub-centre level and at Primary Health Care centres for patients with mild symptoms who are unable to isolate at home, which will be staffed with a doctor including Ayush doctors and some nursing staff and volunteers.

ii) Community health centers or Field Hospitals at a Zila/ sub-district level equipped with oxygen concentrators for patients with moderate symptoms in need of oxygen support.

iii) Advanced medical centers at larger government, civil or private hospitals with ICU facilities for critical patients.

The Sanjeevani Pariyojana initiative will help transform the healthcare services provided to the people of Haryana. The initiative is being supported by Deloitte.

The ASHA (Accredited Social Health Activist) workers will continue to provide primary front-line healthcare support and they will also inform citizens about the benefits of this new programme.
