1. (a) Covaxin
The Subject Expert Committee (SEC) has approved Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin for phase 2 and 3 human clinical trials on 2 to 18-year-olds.

Dr. Tahera Qutbuddin has become the first person from India to win the prestigious Sheikh Zayed Book Award.  The Mumbai-born professor won the honour for her book ‘Arabic Oration: Art and Function’, which was published by Brill Academic Publishers of Leiden in 2019.

The World Health Organization (WHO) informed on May 12, 2021 that the COVID-19 variant -B.1.617 that was first found in India in October 2020 has been detected in sequences uploaded from 44 countries in all six WHO regions.

International Nurses Day is observed every year on May 12 to honour nurses all over the world. The day was celebrated for the first time by The International Council of Nurses- ICN in 1965.

5. (d) Florence Nightingale
Florence Nightingale, a British nurse was instrumental in changing the role and perception of the nursing profession. She is known as the founder of modern nursing as she was the first to establish formal training for nurses. The International Nurses Day is observed annually on her birth anniversary on May 12th. 

6. (a) AstraZeneca
AstraZeneca, a drug major, announced on May 11, 2021, that it has pledged $2,50,000 (over Rs. 1.8 crores) in humanitarian aid to India. The funds will support the relief activities amid the second wave of Coronavirus sweeping across the country. The aid is a part of USD 1 million which the British-Swedish multinational have assigned for the relief initiatives across the communities that have been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic.

7. (a) 10.1 percent
The United Nations informed on May 11, 2021, that India has been projected to grow at 10.1% in the year 2022. The country will be the fastest-growing major economy in the world. However, the UN has cautioned that the growth outlook of the country in 2021 will be highly fragile due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

8. (c) Switzerland
The 4th India-Swiss Financial Dialogue was hosted virtually in New Delhi on May 11, 2021. The Economic Affairs Secretary Ajay Seth had led the Indian delegation at the dialogue, while Daniela Stoffel, State Secretary had the delegation from Switzerland.
