Andhra Pradesh to provide 9 hrs free power supply to farmlands in Kharif season

• Andhra Pradesh Energy Minister Balineni Srinivasa Reddy informed on June 14, 2021 that the state government will provide nine hours of free continuous power supply to the farmlands during the daytime in the coming Kharif season.

• The Minister stated while speaking to the media that Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has allocated Rs 1700 crores for making this possible. He assured that all facilities have been made in this regard. 

• The farmers in Anantapur district had asked for power supply during the day and night. The state will provide power to the district accordingly.

Two Delhi hospitals to begin administering Sputnik V doses by end of this week

• Two Delhi hospitals will start administering the Russian COVID-19 vaccine, Sputnik V by the end of this week.

• One hospital is Delhi’s Madhukar Rainbow Children’s Hospital, which will start administering Sputnik V tentatively from June 20. The appointment slots can be booked through CoWIN portal. The exact number of available doses will be confirmed by the end of this week.

• The other hospital that will administer Sputnik V doses is Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, which will start the process by the end of this week.

• The employees of Dr. Reddy’s Lab were administered the vaccine at the hospital on June 13th. Around 1000 doses of Sputnik V reached Apollo Hospital and out of these 170 doses were administered to lab employees.

• Sputnik V is the third vaccine to be approved by the Government of India for use in the country. Its price per dose at private hospitals has been capped at Rs 1,145.

• Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, based in Hyderabad, has partnered with the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) for the rollout of the vaccine in India. 

Barbora Krejcikova becomes first player to win women’s singles, doubles title in French Open since 2000

• Czech Republic’s Barbora Krejcikova has become the first player to win both the women’s singles and doubles event at the French Open since Mary Pierce achieved it in 2000.

• Krejcikova achieved the feat on June 13, 2021 when she along with her partner Katerina Siniakova won the women’s double title at the ongoing French Open. 

• Krejcikova had won the women’s singles title just a day earlier on June 12th. 

• Krejcikova also became the first woman to win both the singles and doubles events at a Grand Slam since Serena Williams in 2016.

Villages in Jharkhand move towards 100 percent vaccination target

• Several villages in Jharkhand are slowly moving towards achieving 100 percent Covid-19 vaccination, with a few already having achieved the ambitious target.

• All the people of the Banmara village located at the Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh border have been vaccinated with at least the first dose of the vaccine.

• The people here actively participated in the vaccination drive despite being one of the farthest villages and achieved 100 percent vaccination in the village. 

• The Ranga panchayat of Masaliya block in Dumka is also heading towards the 100 percent vaccination target. 

• Besides this, Shikaripara and Gandrakpur Panchayats, which are situated at the farthest part of the districts have also achieved more than 80 percent vaccination.

• Garu, a Naxal-affected block in the Latehar district has also vaccinated almost 50 percent of its adult population. The block has administered almost 36,000 doses. 

• This has been made possible due to the few awareness attempts by the administration people of these villages.

Andhra Pradesh announces Rs 25 lakh ex-gratia for family of government doctors who died of COVID-19

• Andhra Pradesh government on June 14, 2021 announced ex-gratia of Rs 25 lakh and Rs 20 lakh for the families of doctors and nurses from the state health department who died due to COVID-19.

• An ex-gratia of Rs 15 lakh has also been announced for families of Male Nursing Orderly (MNOs) and Female Nursing Orderly (FNOs) who passed away similarly due to COVID-19. 

• The families of other staff will receive Rs 10 lakh ex-gratia.
